LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. — A mother in North Carolina is reportedly facing charges that include involuntary manslaughter after her 6-month-old son was found dead, lying naked on a couch on Christmas Eve in a home authorities say was filled with garbage and human and animal waste.
According to WSOCTV in North Carolina, 30-year-old Stephanie Tillman has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection with her infant son’s death. She also faces three misdemeanor counts of contributing to the delinquency and neglect by parents and three misdemeanor counts of child abuse.
The woman’s two other children were found inside the home, which was described as being filthy and filled with garbage and waste from humans and animals.
The father of the infant, Jerry Allen, reportedly called 911 on Christmas Eve after he came to the home after work and found his son unresponsive and naked on the living room sofa.
Allen told authorities he found Tillman in a back bedroom of the home with their other two children, who are 3 and 4 years old.
“That night when I walked in, I was blown away because I’ve never seen anybody live the way that house was that night,” Allen told WSOCTV.
The boy on the sofa was found to be dead, though the cause of death is still being investigated.
WSOCTV reports the other two children in the home were taken into custody by social services before being turned over to the care of other family members.
Tillman was reportedly treated for injuries she suffered two days earlier in an assault and for, “what appeared to be extreme intoxication from prescribed medication.”
