How to avoid being a “helicopter parent”

Therapist Kathy Parker shared some tips on how to avoid being a helicopter parent and instead raising confident and independent kids. Helicopter parents tend to hover over their children and intervene every time they see not only trouble, but even potential discomfort. This parenting style prevents children from learning life skills. Here are the actions Kathy recommends:
• Have expectations of your children
• Teach them to do things for themselves instead of doing things for them
• Start chores as early as 2 years old
• Help your children problem solve instead of solving their problems for them
• Love them and allow them to be who they are
