Suspect in custody after driver of stolen vehicle crashes, flees into Grand America Hotel

SALT LAKE CITY — Police responded to the Grand America Hotel in Salt Lake City Thursday afternoon after a stolen vehicle crashed into another car on 600 South and the driver fled into the hotel.

Salt Lake City Police Department personnel confirm officers responded to the hotel at 555 South Main Street after a stolen car crashed, and while initial reports indicated the car crashed into the building itself, it would appear the car actually crashed in the vicinity of the hotel rather than into the structure.

The crash occurred sometime after 3 p.m., and police said the suspect fled into the Grand America and then down to a second level parking structure. Numerous police units responded to assist in the search, and the man was ultimately found hiding under a vehicle. He was not armed, and the man was captured around 3:45 p.m.

That suspect has been identified as 21-year-old Cory Webb. Police initially gave a different name, but stated they later learned the man had given them false information.
