Missing man with dementia from Payson found after hitchhiking to mall in Orem

UPDATE: Police said Friday night the missing man has been found and is safe. The man had hitchhiked to University Mall in Orem, where he was eventually spotted by a state trooper who had seen the missing persons alert.

Butler is reported to be safe and in good condition.

PAYSON, Utah — Police in Payson are reaching out to the public for help in locating an elderly man who was last seen at an assisted living center in Payson Friday morning, and officials said the man suffers from dementia as well as diabetes.

Authorities are looking for 84-year-old Lavar Butler, who was last seen wearing a blue and gray puffy coat and light-colored Levis. He was last seen around 10 a.m. Friday at Beehive Homes at 661 East 700 South in Payson.

Anyone who sees the man, who police say suffers from dementia and diabetes, should contact police dispatch in Payson at 801-794-3982.
