SALT LAKE CITY — Convicted rapists would have to pay child support if someone is born out of a sexual assault, according to a new bill unveiled in the Utah State Legislature.
Rep. Robert Spendlove, R-Sandy, filed House Bill 426 on Thursday. It would require convicted sex offenders to pay child support, but only if the victim requests it through the courts.
The bill would also prohibit that convicted sex offender from getting child visitation or custody, unless the guardian of that child consents.
