Today is Read Across America Day! It was started March 2, 1998, by the National Education Association as a call to have every child in America celebrate reading for one day. They chose today because it`s Dr. Seuss birthday, and it`s a fun way to kick off National Literacy Month.

Here are six fun ways to celebrate reading with your children:

  • Book themed parties
  • Harry Potter's birthday
  • Make books accessible
  • Have a family read-a-thon
  • Make a reading chart
  • Get your child a library card and let them use it often.

Some good reads that Dawn Ramsey with Jordan School District recommends are:

  • Junie B Jones Series
  • Ready Freddy Series
  • Anything by Dr. Seuss
  • Magic Tree House Series
  • Ramona Quimby Series
  • Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing Series
  • Diary of a Wimpy Kid Series
  • Percy Jackson Series
  • Harry Potter Series
  • Where the Red Fern Grows
  • Because of Winn Dixie
  • The Secret Garden
  • Number the Stars
  • The Princess Academy Series
