SALT LAKE CITY -- Students at West High School in Salt Lake City got an unexpected visitor Thursday as the rapper Flavor Flav stopped by to share a message about education.
Flavor Flav rose to fame as part of the rap group Public Enemy, and his brother works at West High as an athletic director. His brother asked for a visit, and Thursday the rapper was on campus.
Flavor Flav, whose real name is William Drayton Jr., says his surprise drop in was to give the kids a very special message about staying in school.
“There’s a lot of people that’s not going to be as lucky as I am, you know what I’m saying, who don't have a diploma, and it’s real hard to get a job out here without a diploma, man, you know what I’m saying?” he said. “So, I just don't want to see them make the same mistakes I did and a lot of other people did.”
Flavor Flav is still doing shows with Public Enemy, and he says he is getting ready to premiere a new television show. Tune in to Good Day Utah Saturday starting at 6:30 a.m. for more from Flavor Flav.
