SANDY, Utah -- A Sandy man received a Citizen of Merit award for his service to the community at a Sandy City Council meeting, Tuesday evening.
Brian Parker received a standing ovation as he accepted the award. For the past 14 years, the special needs man has helped more than 100 families, mostly senior citizens, take out their trash and recycling bins. He then returns the bins the next day, rain or shine.
Ten years ago, Parker saved an elderly woman’s life when he found her lying in the snow and got her help immediately.
Parker is also known to help clean up after church and shovel snow for people during the winter.
