Organization raises funds and awareness during Child Abuse Prevention Month

Posted

SALT LAKE CITY -- April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and some Utahns are being recognized for their work as child advocates.

The group Prevent Child Abuse Utah and Attorney General Sean Reyes recognized three people Friday.

The group is selling pinwheels to help raise awareness on the issue, and the proceeds will help educate more Utahns on how to prevent child abuse.

“If the stats are 1 in 4, and 1 in 6 kids are being abused before the age of 18, that they probably know somebody that’s being abused, and it’s a problem best addressed at the beginning, when children are young, and everybody just needs to understand prevention,” said Mary Lucero, the Executive Director for Prevent Child Abuse Utah.

The group said they were able to educate 42,000 Utahns about child abuse prevention last year. For more information about the group’s efforts and the ways you can help, click here.
