SALT LAKE CITY — A gas leak that caused evacuations of homes of businesses in Salt Lake City, Tuesday, has stopped.

Salt Lake City Fire Department tweeted crews on scene of the leak at 700 East and 700 South are starting to leave and Questar will monitor and lift evacuations when appropriate.

At about 3 p.m. a contractor hit a two-inch gas line in the area, said Darren Shepherd, spokesman for Questar.

Questar crews dug up the line up to stop the leak.

About 12 to 13 buildings were evacuated.

More information will be provided as it becomes available.
