Roy man seeking birth parents after 65 years learns he was baby ‘Tiny Tim’ abandoned in car

ROY, Utah -- A baby barely survived after being abandoned in freezing temperatures, but, six decades later, one Roy man says he is the miracle baby known as Tiny Tim.

“There’s a ten-month hole in life, really,” said Kim Stevens of Roy.

An old hospital, a car and old documents tell the story of "Tiny Tim."

“He told me about being abandoned in a car [belonging to] a doctor,” Stevens said.

On December 12, 1951, a three-day-old baby was abandoned in the back seat of a car in the driveway of a doctor's home.

“All I had on was a diaper and a T-shirt, and it was like 18 degrees outside, and I was blue,” Stevens said.

The baby was taken to the hospital, and 10 months later he was adopted.

Now, 65 years later, Kim Stevens believes these documents piece together his past.

“They named me 'Tiny Tim' at the hospital, well my name at the orphanage until I was adopted was baby Tim Doe," Stevens said.

Kim started searching for his biological parents just a few weeks ago after deciding he wanted to learn about his health history. He never could have imagined he was Tiny Tim.

“The story pretty much matches,” Stevens said.

But after meeting with an attorney and opening legal documents, they found several news articles

“Oh my gosh, I found you, I found an article,” said Bonnie Stevens, Kim’s Wife, of those moments.

For the first time in Kim's life and in their 45 years of marriage, the couple saw a picture of him as a baby

“He weighed 6 pounds 6 ounces, which we never knew,” Bonnie Stevens said.

While they never found medical records and probably never will, they said what they have found is helpful.

“Just knowing what we’ve found has been a big help,” Bonnie Stevens said.

Kim searched for the doctor that saved him, but he died in the '90s. They hope that by sharing this story they can find more information about Stevens' parents.
