Utah couple gets engaged at finish line of Boston Marathon

Posted

Several runners from Utah made the trip to Boston for the marathon coming up on Monday, and one couple began the next stage of their lives together while hanging out at the finish line Sunday.

Walter Brown posted a video of himself and other Utahns at the finish line of the Boston Marathon, and during the live Facebook broadcast he popped the question to his now-fiance, Bethany Ericksen.

Before dropping to one knee, Brown joked about how a finish line usually isn’t the place to see someone looking their best. The comments/proposal begin at about the 3:30-mark in the video embedded above.

“When you’re at the finish line, the cliché is, if you wanna see your sweetheart or someone that you’re attracted to at their absolute worst, then you can come to this finish line,” Brown said. “However, at this finish line today, I am making an announcement.”

After handing off the camera, Brown asks the big question, and then there are kisses and cheers as Bethany says yes. Brown also posted a photo of the couple with their marathon bibs, and he also included a photo of the crew of Utah runners who will tackle the marathon Monday. They all posed with a “Utah Loves Boston” banner.

Brown also said Monday just happens to be his birthday.
