SAN DIEGO, Calif. — A 3-day-old boy was reportedly mauled to death by a family dog in a San Diego neighborhood Thursday night.
The Los Angeles Times reports the attack occurred in Mira Mesa in the San Diego area while the boy’s parents were watching TV around 8 p.m. Thursday.
The dog was lying on a bed with the parents, but after the child’s mother coughed the noise apparently startled the canine, which then attacked the baby.
The child was pronounced dead after being taken to a hospital by his parents.
“It’s such a horrific, tragic incident they are going through,” Sgt. Tu Nguyen of the San Diego Police Department told the Los Angeles Times.
The dog, a Great Dane-terrier mix, is in the custody of San Diego County Animal Services.
