Recipe: Gnocchi with a Chunky Beef Sauce

1 16 oz. package potato gnocchi

1 lb. ground beef

1 large onion, diced

6-8 mushrooms, sliced

4 garlic cloves, diced

2 (14.5 oz.) cans diced tomatoes

1 15 oz. can tomato sauce

1 teaspoon dried basil

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes

1/4 cup fresh parmesan cheese, grated

8-10 large basil leaves torn

Salt and Pepper, to taste


Cook gnocchi according to package directions.

In a large skillet or Dutch oven up to medium high heat, brown ground beef with salt and pepper. Add onions and mushrooms. Saute for 5-6 minutes. Add garlic; sauté another 1-2 minutes. Add diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, dried basil, oregano and red pepper flakes. Cook for 5-6 minutes, stirring frequently. Taste; add additional salt and pepper, if needed.

Add gnocchi to the pan. Cook for 1-2 minutes or until heated through. Serve immediately with cheese and basil.
