LAYTON, Utah– The  Layton City Fire Department responded to a structure fire, early Thursday morning located at 53 N Talbot Drive.

At 12:16 a.m. dispatch received a call from one of the homeowners who reported the backyard and patio was on fire. There were also reports of a power line that was down and arcing.

An adult male and female with a 6-year-old daughter safely evacuated the home along with their dog.

Fire crews were able to diminish flames in the back of the home as they worked to the inside where flames had extended up into the attic. Crews had to remove part of the ceiling to put out cellulose insulation that was burning.

The fire was extinguished within 25 minutes.

There is significant damage to the structure exterior and interior as damage estimates are near $80,000. The occupants were offered relief assistance but declined as they had family to stay with.

Rocky Mountain Power was called to shut off the downed power line.

The cause is still unknown, but authorities said they found remains of fireworks nearby. Fire investigators will continue their investigation Thursday morning to determine the cause of the fire.
