The heartbreaking reason Miss Utah picked suicide prevention for her platform

Lauren Wilson is the current Miss Utah. She picked suicide prevention as her platform of choice after her best friend committed suicide. Since the topic is very close to her heart, Wilson is set on shining a light on it. She works with Hope4Utah to set up hope squads in schools, which are peer-led programs to raise awareness about suicide. The first year after starting the program in the Provo School District, there were zero suicides. Wilson says it is apparent that talking about the issue is the key to lowering suicide rates.
