SALT LAKE CITY - Driving into Salt Lake City Friday morning, Josh Gibson got into a pretty bad car accident.

“Rammed right into the passenger rear side of my car and then I kind of rolled, slid on my roof and was lucky to be alive I guess,” Gibson said.

Once paramedics bandaged up the gash on his arm, Gibson started thinking logically about the next step.

“Kind of like panic mode. I was just walking around my car taking photos,” Gibson said.

He had planned on sharing those photos with his family and insurance company, but Facebook had other plans.

“Google photos has it too. It’s like some algorithm that will look at your GPS coordinates and the time your photos were taken,” Gibson said.

The new feature created a light-hearted slideshow of his accident.

Thinking it was kind of funny, Gibson posted it to Reddit and within hours, it had hundreds of thousands of views.

“The internet is a weird place,” Gibson said.

Ironically, Gibson is a filmmaker, who’s put a lot of effort into creating content that would go viral and something he didn’t even make is trending on YouTube.

“It proves that content is king. Doesn’t matter any strategy you put behind your video,” Gibson said.

Gibson doesn’t expect any professional gains to come from his viral video, but does hope Toyota takes notice.

“That’s really all I’m worried about is getting my 4runner back. I would love another 4runner. I miss that car already,” Gibson said.
