SALT LAKE CITY — A man was killed Thursday evening after being hit by two cars in Salt Lake City.

Police said a Unified Police Officer was traveling eastbound near 1100 South Main Street at 11:00 p.m. when the officer hit a pedestrian.

The pedestrian was knocked into the westbound lane and immediately hit by an SUV.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said visibility was the main issue in this accident.

Lt. Derek Dimond with the Salt Lake Police Department said the man was wearing dark clothing and it was a dark area due to the power outages caused by the storm.

The UPD officer did not see the pedestrian until it was too late, police said.

The man was not walking in a cross walk when he was hit. Police said the victim was about 30-years-old but have not identified him.
