SALT LAKE CITY — A man has been booked into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail after he was accused of sexually abusing a boy and a girl at his home earlier this week.

Frankie Lynn Ortiz faces felony charges of sex abuse of a child and aggravated sex abuse of child.

According to a probable cause statement, the boy told his mother that Ortiz abused him and another child in a shed in the backyard of Ortiz’s home on Sunday.

The Salt Lake County Children’s Justice Center conducted an interview with the boy on Monday. During the interview, the boy said Ortiz hit the girl with a baseball bat, the statement said.

The boy’s mother took him to Primary Children’s Hospital for a medical exam on Sunday. The girl’s family was contacted early Monday morning and advised to get a medical exam for her too, the statement said.

Police interviewed Ortiz and read him his Miranda rights, but he denied doing anything to the children involved, the statement said.

Police said they asked Ortiz if he had ever been investigated for similar crimes.

“[Ortiz] said no when in fact he has been previously the subject of child sex abuse,” the statement said.

The jail booking information for Ortiz shows an alias of “Johnny Martinez.”
