SALT LAKE CITY — Governor-elect Spencer Cox will have an outdoor inauguration ceremony in southern Utah, coinciding with a statewide food drive.
The governor-elect's office announced plans on Saturday for the inauguration ceremonies at the Tuacahn Center for the Arts in Ivins. He and Lt. Governor-elect Deidre Henderson also announced his desire for Utahns to participate in a statewide food drive, a day of service and a day of prayer.
The inauguration ceremony, which includes the oath of office for Utah's attorney general, auditor and treasurer, will take place in warmer temperatures for January than the Capitol grounds. It also takes into account the unique difficulties of the COVID-19 pandemic. The governor-elect's office said it will adjust plans as needed, and the guests will be physically distanced. Attendance at Tuacahn is also restricted to 25% or less of the venue's capacity.
The inauguration will be broadcast on TV statewide.
Leading up to the inauguration, Gov.-elect Cox and Lt. Gov.-elect Henderson announced a 30-day food drive for the Utah Food Bank. Utahns can collect food to donate or contribute online at a website set up by the Utah Inauguration Commission.
"All donations will remain in the local communities where they are collected through coordination with the Utah Food Bank and the more than 200 community food pantries across the state," the site said.
