SALT LAKE CITY — Elder Gerrit W. Gong and his wife, Sister Susan Gong, have tested positive for COVID-19, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints announced Tuesday.
Elder Gong is the first member of the Quorum of the 12 Apostles to have tested positive.
"Their condition is mild, but they are being cautious and their health is being carefully monitored by doctors." said Church spokesman Eric Hawkins.
Elder Gong did attend last weekend's General Conference, appearing on video instead.
"We continue to encourage all Church members to take steps to protect themselves and one another during this global pandemic." said Hawkins.
