SALT LAKE CITY — The 2020 Red Butte Garden Outdoor Concert Series has been canceled, the organization announced Wednesday.

“The state and university have slowly relaxed some of the guidelines for public venues that host concerts and outdoor events, but so far these are limited to small groups. We just don’t expect that there will be a safe and responsible way to bring 3,000 concertgoers to the amphitheatre this summer,” said Red Butte Garden deputy director Derrek Hanson in a statement sent to FOX 13.

The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the entertainment industry and most live performers have opted to cancel their tours, the statement said. Hanson hopes the venue will once again host full-size crowds for a concert series in 2020.

In the meantime, Hanson and his staff have worked to make the necessary adjustments for Red Butte Garden to host smaller gatherings, such as weddings.
