Utah records 300th COVID-19 death

SALT LAKE CITY — 300 people in Utah have now died of COVID-19, according to the Utah Department of Health's latest report.

Thursday's report also shows 502 new cases of the disease, bringing the state's total to 39,696 positive cases.

524,367 people in Utah have been tested for COVID-19. Utah's rolling 7-day average for positive tests is 508 per day.

Since the start of the pandemic, 2,346 people in Utah have required hospitalization for COVID-19. Of those, 217 remain in the hospital.

The nine new deaths announced Thursday are:

  • Male, between 65-84, Davis County resident, hospitalized at time of death
  • Male, older than 85, Davis County resident, not hospitalized but was under Hospice care
  • Female, between 65-84, Juab County resident, long-term care facility resident
  • Male, between 45-64, Salt Lake County resident, long-term care facility resident
  • Male, older than 85, Salt Lake County resident, long-term care facility resident
  • Female, between 45-64, Salt Lake County resident, hospitalized at time of death
  • Male, between 65-84, Salt Lake County resident, long-term care facility resident
  • Female, older than 85, Salt Lake County resident, long-term care facility resident
  • Male, older than 85, Utah County resident, hospitalized at time of death

According to UDOH, although there were nine new deaths announced Thursday, there is a net increase of eight because one previously-reported death has been removed from the total for further investigation.

27,261 of Utah's cases are considered "recovered." A case with a diagnosis date of more than three weeks ago, who has not passed away, is considered recovered.
