Utah's COVID-19 positive testing rate nears 30% as total deaths reach over 1,300

Sunday's case count from the Utah Department of Health is the first of the year to not include totals from multiple days due to a holiday.

New Cases
1,819 new cases have been reported, bringing the statewide total to 283,473 since March.

Testing
4,802 new tests have been administered, bringing the statewide total to 1,745,75.
The current rolling seven-day average of positive tests is now 2,652, or roughly 29.2% of those tested.

Hospitalizations
There are currently 486 people hospitalized with COVID-19. 11,159 people have been hospitalized since the pandemic began.

Deaths
The state is reporting seven additional deaths, bringing the statewide total to 1,301. The newly reported deaths include:
Male, older than 85, Salt Lake County resident, long-term care facility resident

  • Male, between 65-84, Washington County resident, hospitalized at time of death
  • Male, between 65-84, Utah County resident, hospitalized at time of death
  • Male, older than 85, Washington County resident, not hospitalized at time of death
  • Male, older than 85, Utah County resident, long-term care facility resident
  • Male, between 65-84, Washington County resident, not hospitalized at time of death
  • Female, between 65-84, Weber County resident, hospitalized at time of death

Vaccines Administered
47,282 vaccines have been administered as part of the Phase 1 distribution plan. Note: “Doses Administered” is the number of vaccine doses that have been given to people and reported to the UDOH. There will be a lag between when vaccines are shipped, administered to a person, and finally reported to the UDOH. Once people in Utah begin getting their second dose of vaccine, the UDOH will also report the total number of people vaccinated. Data are preliminary and the UDOH will report additional data as they become available.
