MILLER PLACE, N.Y. — Over three dozen people have been infected with COVID-19, and nearly 300 people are in quarantine after a recent Sweet 16 party.

The party held at the Miller Place Inn on Long Island in September was attended by 81 people, exceeding the New York's 50-person limit to stem the spread of the virus.

Following the party, the entire guest list was quarantined, according to WNYW.

Of those who attended the event, 29 have contracted COVID-19, while an additional 8 people were infected after coming in contact with someone at the party.

In all, 270 people are in quarantine with 11 in active isolation.

“This was an egregious violation and should serve as a stark reminder of the consequences that exist for flouting COVID-19 protocols,” said Suffolk Country Executive Steve Bellone. “These rules and regulations exist for a reason - to keep New Yorkers safe - and we all have an obligation to act responsibly.

The venue was fined $12,000 for violation of the 50-person limit, along with fines for other violations.
