SALT LAKE CITY — A teenage driver was stopped by police going the wrong way in downtown Salt Lake City on Friday morning.

An officer on routine patrol noticed a minivan driving in the opposite direction on 500 South near Main Street. After stopping the vehicle, the officer discovered the driver was a 14-year-old and that the van was stolen.

Det. Michael Ruff with the Salt Lake City Police Department said it's not unusual to see drivers traveling in the opposite direction on 500 South after they turn the wrong way, despite it being marked with signs.

When the owners of the minivan picked it up from police, they reported $6,000 in property was missing.

The teen was booked into a juvenile detention facility.
