SALT LAKE CITY — As of Friday morning, county clerk's offices around the State of Utah have already "processed" more than half of the ballots issued to active registered voters.

In Utah, a ballot is considered "processed" when a county clerk's office worker has opened the envelope, verified the signature, confirmed the eligibility of the ballot and deposited it in preparation for counting.

Utah has 1,856,960 registered voters, and 1,682,147 of those are considered "active." On Friday morning, the state reported 851,016 ballots—50.59 percent of ballots sent to active registered voters—have been processed.

The "inactive" group of Utah's registered voters—174,812 people—have not voted in two General Elections and failed to respond to notices sent by county clerks.

"There are still plenty of opportunities for everyone to vote, and we still want everyone to do that. You know, go put it in the mail so long as it's postmarked no later than Monday, November 2nd, or put them in those ballot drop boxes any time of the day until election night," said Justin Lee, Director of Utah State Elections.
