DUCHESNE COUNTY, Utah — The Duchesne County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in identifying the people responsible for recent thefts and acts of vandalism at oil and gas well sites in the Uintah Basin.
"This activity is not only dangerous, in some cases it also poses serious environmental threats. These illegal actions are causing more wells to be shut-in due to the high cost of repairs and, consequently, impacting even more jobs in the Basin," a news release from the Sheriff's Office said.
Local oil and gas well operators in the Uintah Basin are offering a reward of $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the people who committed the thefts and vandalism.
Anyone with information that may aid with the investigation is urged to call the Duchesne County Sheriff's Office at 435-738-2015 or Central Dispatch at 435-789-4222.
