8 new COVID-19 deaths recorded in Utah; 134 new positive cases

SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Department of Health has released its daily COVID-19 report for Tuesday, May 19.

Health officials announced eight new deaths related to the virus, bringing the statewide total to 88. It is the highest number of deaths reported in a single day.

Five of the deaths were men, and three were women. Six were Salt Lake County residents, one Utah County and one Washington County. Five were between 60-85 years old, two were older than 85, and one was between 18-59.

There were 134 new cases, making the total 7,518. The rate of positive tests is currently 4.2 percent with 177,311 total tests performed, an increase in 3,289 from Monday.

Of those who have tested positive, 4,275 have recovered.

An increase of 24 hospitalizations brings the total to 619.
