SALT LAKE CITY — Spencer Cox is the first Utah gubernatorial candidate to gather and submit the required 28,000 signatures to be placed on the Republican primary ballot, a news release from the campaign said.

Cox's team of volunteers collected the signatures over 40 days, beginning on January 2.

Cox, who is currently the Lt. Governor under Gary Herbert, is the state's Chief Election Officer.

"Lt. Gov. Cox has implemented a process to ensure the gubernatorial race is administered transparently. If a concern arises involving the Cox campaign, former Utah Lt. Gov. Gayle McKeachnie will evaluate the concern and submit an independent recommendation for resolution," the news release said.
