GOSHEN, Utah — A 12-year-old girl has died from injuries she suffered as she fell off a four-wheeler Monday night.

It happened around 7:30 in the southern Utah County town of Goshen. According to the Utah County Sheriff's Office, the girl had been riding on an ATV driven by her 13-year-old friend.

When emergency crews arrived, they found bystanders administering CPR to the girl.

"This victim was with two friends on the four-wheeler driving north on the shoulder of the road. The 13 year old driver told Deputies as she was driving the four-wheeler suddenly jerked to the side, causing her friend to fall off," a news release from the Sheriff's Office said.

The victim suffered multiple serious head injuries and injuries to her right ankle.

Deputies and Santaquin Ambulance crews worked to treat the girl until a medical helicopter arrived at the scene. The helicopter took her to Utah Valley Hospital, where she was pronounced dead about four hours after the accident.

According to the news release, the girl had a helmet with her but was not wearing it at the time of the crash. The 13-year-old driver and another passenger, age 10, were not injured.
