SALT LAKE CITY — Be sure to check your mailbox Tuesday because your mail-in ballot may be there.

Nearly 1,000,000 mail-in ballots are on their way to voters across the state, just shy of 291,000 in Salt Lake County alone.

Utah is one of the leaders and pioneers taking part in the mail-in voting process. The ballots right now are for Utah primary elections later this month, in particular the Republican primary.

Utah officials decided several years ago to really embrace mail-in voting and it has become a staple of our election process.

Now more than ever, in the middle of a global pandemic, where people are being discouraged from gathering in large crowds, the mail-in ballot process is more important than ever.

And despite some recent news stories nationally that mail-in ballots can be easily corrupted, Salt Lake County Clerk, Sheri Swenson, says Utah has a proven track record that it is safe and secure.

"We've had many, many elected officials, and the Lt. Governor's Office, the State Auditor's staff, they have come through and reviewed our process and they walk away being very impressed," Swenson said.

The ballot for the June primary should be in your mailbox either Tuesday or sometime this week.

The Republican primary election is June 30.

Officials want to remind everyone to not only fill them out but to sign the affidavit because that is your verification.
