SALT LAKE CITY — A Salt Lake City brewing company is teaming up with breweries all over the globe to create a beer that supports the black community and minorities.

The beer is called “Black is Beautiful” and is being made by SaltFire brewing company.

“It’s got oats in it, that really present itself, and kind of a nice creaminess,” said Ryan Miller, the Owner of SaltFire Brewing Company.

Miller says when he heard about the idea for the black is beautiful beer, he knew he wanted to be a part of it.

“ When I first saw mention of it by some of the other breweries in Texas including Weathered souls, it was just a no brainer for us, we jumped on board right off the Bat,” said Miller.

The idea came from Weathered Souls brewery in Texas and has since been picked up by almost a thousand breweries across the country.

“ The purpose of the beer is to highlight the injustices going on around the world, not just in the US against people of color and minorities,” said Miller.

Miller says the beer is a stout and has a rich oatmeal flavor.

“ It’s originally an imperial Stout, but everyone is given a little leeway to make it a little bit their own to change the recipe up And whatever,” said Miller.

The proceeds from Black is Beautiful go to Black Lives Matter Utah, the ACLU and the NAACP.

“I’m really proud of it and I’m really glad that the community is rallying behind it, everybody’s really excited about it and I’m hoping that it can do some good for us here in Utah,” said Miller.

If you’d like to try it, you can buy it at the SaltFire brewing company.
