Man dead from apparent suicide after shooting at Naples police officer

NAPLES, Utah — Naples residents no longer need to shelter in place after an active police incident that began there Monday morning.

According to to the Uintah County Sheriff's Office, residents in the area between 1500 S and 1900 S, and between 2000 E and 3000 E had been urged to stay inside, lock their doors and stay away from windows.

According to Facebook posts from Naples City, officers from several agencies were looking for a man in his 30s who was not wearing a shirt or shoes.

Police later gave more information, saying that a man had fired shots at an officer and fled into a wooded area before the officer was able to return fire. He was later found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
