SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah — A 10-year-old boy was injured Friday afternoon when a truck crashed through the side of a South Salt Lake home.

Police said the incident happened at around 1:30 at 3300 S and 300 E.

Police said a truck traveling east on 3300 S crossed over a double-yellow line, through a strip mall parking lot, over 300 E, through a fence and into the home.

Three children, ages 2, 5 and 10, were in the home and the 10-year-old became pinned under the truck. Police said it took firefighters 20 minutes to free the boy. The 10-year-old went to a nearby hospital and was then flown to Primary Children's Hospital.

"Fortunately, some good Samaritans and witnesses were able to get two other kids safely out of the home before they realized that another child was trapped. So, this was just an absolute that strikes to the heart of first responders," said Sgt. Matthew Oehler, South Salt Lake Police Department.

South Salt Lake Police said the truck driver, a man in his 50s, had been traveling at a high rate of speed and never braked before the crash. Investigators will determine whether or not alcohol or a medical condition could have contributed to the crash.
