SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Highway Patrol troopers are reminding drivers to pay attention, monitor their vehicles' conditions and watch out for emergency crews.
On Saturday, February 8, two troopers were stopped on I-15 near 3300 S in Salt Lake County to assist a driver whose vehicle had a flat tire.
Corporal Dave Wurtz of UHP saw another vehicle quickly approaching just before it struck a patrol car.
"I saw it coming and I started telling him to watch out and we kind of started going away from the road area to where it would be safer for us," Wurtz said.
Wurtz's body-worn camera captured the tense moments as he ran for safety. The woman whose vehicle struck the parked patrol car faces a citation.
The driver with the flat tire was also given a citation. He was cited for driving with faulty equipment because his tires were bald, according to UHP.
