Water to be released from Utah Lake to make room for snowmelt

UTAH — This winter’s snow is still weeks, even months away from melting, but preparations are underway for when it comes down from the mountains.

There has been no shortage of snow this winter, which means we have an abundance of water — but it also creates a concern.

When spring temperatures arrive, the melting snow needs a place to go. The issue: Utah Lake doesn`t have much room.

Utah Lake managers are opening the floodgates, releasing water into the Jordan River.
