UHP shares safety tips during winter storm

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The Utah Highway Patrol is out in full force thanks to the weather.

Conditions in this recent winter storm have been better than Monday's but still not ideal.

It’s because of these questionable conditions that UHP is warning not to be too confident in driving.

"Even the speed limit to be too fast on days like this." Corporal Andy Battenfield with the Utah highway patrol said, "it’s not uncommon to as the traffic turns out we start finding some speeders again."

157 crashes are currently being investigated by the U.H.P. from just Thursday morning's conditions.

With the weather continuing through the weekend they told us a few things on our ride along to keep in mind.

First, give snowplows a lot of room.

"If you get in an accident with a snowplow I can almost guarantee you will lose every time." Corporal Battenfield said.

Next, concentrate and keep your attention on the road itself.

Finally just don't speed.

"We will pull Speeders over for even a mile over the speed limit today is a day that you really need to pay attention."
