SALT LAKE CITY — High School sports are set to return on time in the fall in Utah.

With Salt Lake County in the "orange" COVID-19 risk level, Governor Gary Herbert made some changes to the guidelines so that students could back to school in-person.

With the changes made, this gave schools like East High the go-ahead to begin football practice, but with some slight adjustments — like wearing masks at all times, social distancing on the sidelines, no more than 50 players on the field, no locker room usage, spraying down the pads before and after usage, as well as temperatures checked.

Head Coach Brandon Matich emphasized what football means to the players, that his guys need the brotherhood of football to keep them busy and away from trouble.

Senior linebacker Sau Tafisi agreed on the importance of the sport.

"This is everything to us. This is how we make it out for most of us, this is part of high school, this is part of our lives. It'd be hard to picture our lives without it," Tafisi said.
