PARK CITY, Utah — Park City native Sage Kotsenburg was the first American to win gold in the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

At 20 years old, he had completed his dream goal of competing and winning at the Olympics, but now at 26 he says that competitive snowboarding is a thing of the past.

Since Sochi, Sage has spent his time focusing on backcountry snowboarding, his 2019 back country film won "Movie of the Year" and along with it he won "Rider of the Year," which was his next goal in the sport.

As he keeps checking off his goals, he continues to strive for more. We can look forward to a 2020 backcountry film that will come out in the fall, and then later this year Sage will join pro snowboarder Travis Rice in the backcountry for a freeride tour.
