In late February 2020, the Utah Department of Health quickly realized the overwhelming task of providing accurate information to the public and answering questions about COVID-19.

The health department has had a longstanding relationship with the Utah Poison Control Center (UPCC) to help with public emergencies, and they quickly got the Utah Coronavirus Information Line up and running on March 3.

In July they moved to a more sustainable process with about 30 designated staff hired to provide information to anyone who calls. They are health professionals including nurses, health educators, medical assistants and respiratory therapists.

In the last year the UPCC has taken more than 250,000 calls from the public about COVID.

To get information about COVID 19 call the COVID hotline at 1-800-456-7707. You can also ask them questions about the vaccine.

For poison emergencies you can call the regular Poison Control number 1-800-222-1222
