With cancellations common during the pandemic, it's inspiring to see how events are pivoting to survive, and perhaps even making their events more accessible to the public.

Raegan Erickson, Event Coordinator at the Huntsman Cancer Foundation, said that's the case with Huntsman SportsFest, which is taking place virtually on Saturday, June 20, 2020.

"For the first time, participants will be able to join from anywhere: Couch, car, bike, or trail," she said. "This is opening up particpation to people of all abilities, all around the world."

Reagan said there's a list of ideas of how people can participate on their website. So far, she said people are doing all sorts of activities; there's a group that registered to play pickleball.

So how does the virtual event work? On June 20, organizers will schedule Zoom meetings with participants to check in on their - ahem - pickleball match (or other activity), and broadcast the check-ins on the SportsFest websiteand social channels for particpants and supporters to watch throughout the day. They will also broadcast patient stories that are sure to inspire.

Participants in Huntsman events such as SportsFest have raised nearly $4.3 million over the last 10 years, with 100-percent of proceeds funding research at the Huntsman Cancer Institute. The fundraising goal for this year's SportsFest is set at $300,000.

Individuals can register to participate - or simply donate in support - at www.huntsmansportsfestival.com.
