Chef Todd, co-owner of Taqueria 27, says he's excited to announce the arrival of their new double-barrel reposado tequila, Herradura.

He joined us with a recipe that uses the tequila.

T27 Herradura Double Barrel Classic Clone (Makes 1 margarita)
Ingredients:
1.5 oz. Reposado Tequila or Mezcal
3 oz. fresh lime juice
1 oz. fresh orange juice
1 oz. agave syrup
1 oz. Cointreau Liqueur
1 blood orange wedge
1 lime wedge
T27 margarita salt

Directions:
Add a small scoop of ice to a shaker tin then add juices, tequila or Mezcal, agave and Cointreau. Seal and shake 5-10 times. Pour into margarita glass with a salted rim. Garnish with lime and blood orange wedge.

Chef Todd says Reposado or "rested" tequila ages for 12 months, first in a standard barrel for the first 11 months, then it is transferred to a newly charred, in this case, an American white oak barrel for the last 30 days. This final step creates a rich, dark amber-colored liquid with a smooth yet complex flavor.

Barrels can be used up to seven times, allowing the tequila its unique flavor profiles and aroma, dependent on what mixology occurred with the prior liquid that inhabited the barrel.

This exclusive non-blended tequila is only available at the five Taqueria 27 locations. Taqueria 27 is the sole buyer of barrel #1423, and there are only 240 bottles produced from that barrel bearing the Taqueria 27 branding.
