RIVERTON, Utah - The first section of the Mountain View Corridor in southeast Salt Lake County is scheduled to open this weekend.

The first two miles of the corridor, running from 12600 South to Rosecrest Road Road (14400 South) are set to open on Saturday.

A celebration will be held on Saturday on the new roadway near Foothills Park at 14000 South and 4800 West. The celebration will include a 5K fun run, a one-mile walk, a ribbon-cutting ceremony and food between 10 a.m. and noon.

The opening of the 2-mile frontage road is happening six months ahead of schedule to help ease congestion in the area. The new system will have two one-way roadways - one northbound and one southbound - similar to a divided highway.

The rest of the roadway, which will run between 2100 North in Lehi and Interstate 80 near the Salt Lake City International Airport, is scheduled to open later this year.
