WASHINGTON COUNTY, Utah — A Washington County man died Monday night in an ATV accident at Sand Hollow State Park. Authorities released his name Tuesday afternoon.

Park Director Laura Melling says two men in their mid-50s to early 60s were riding together when their vehicle rolled. The driver, later identified as 57-year-old Berl Lane Birch, suffered fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene.

The other man on the ATV was thrown from the machine.  He was airlifted to the hospital but Melling says his injuries are not life-threatening and may be out of the hospital on Tuesday.

The cause of the accident is not known, but Melling says it was very windy and there was a lot of blowing sand, which could have contributed to the crash.
