UTAH COUNTY – Two people are dead after a motorcycle crash in Provo Canyon Sunday morning.
A motorcycle with two riders, a male and a female, was traveling southbound on SR-189 near mile marker 10 when the driver lost control and crashed into a cable barrier and posts. The crash occurred along a curve on a downhill grade.
Both riders were ejected from the motorcycle and died on impact.
The crash occurred in an area where the highway is under construction. The two southbound lanes are closed and the northbound lanes have been divided, one for northbound traffic and one for southbound traffic. The two lanes are divided by a cable barrier.
Wind gusts were reported in the area and could be a factor. Speed may have been a factor as well.
The victims were identified as 23-year-old David C. Cancilla and 18-year-old Janet Velasco, both of Orem.
The crash is currently under investigation.
David Cancilla's family released a statement Sunday, saying,
