Obama appoints Mormon to faith-based council

SALT LAKE CITY – President Barack Obama named a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Quorum of the Seventy to his faith-based council.

Elder Steven Snow became the first member of the LDS church to be appointed to the council.

The advisory council makes recommendations on delivering social services and implementing public policies.

Snow’s appointment will last for one year.
