"The male was a jogger, he jogs this route frequently. He lives in the area, he is actually a school teacher at  our middle school, so very familiar with the area," said Lt. Rob Hansen, South Jordan Police Department. "Unfortunately our driver didn't see him."

Crisis counselors are available at the middle school as well as at Bingham High School for students and faculty.

"We just knew we could always count on him, and we knew, when I walked out of the offices between class breaks, he was sitting right there, watching the kids, talking with the kids and making sure that they got along," said Principal Larry Urry, Elk Ridge Middle School. "When I announced it this morning most of them broke down and just sobbed , they were so upset so concerned."

The driver of the truck has cooperated with police. He has not been cited and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
