SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah -- A young girl from South Salt Lake was nearly abducted while on her way to school Monday morning.

Police released surveillance video Tuesday night of the man they believe tried to snatch her.

Kiera Roberts, 8, and three of her siblings were just a few blocks from their home, walking towards Woodrow Wilson Elementary School when a stranger walked up and grabbed Kiera.

"As I understand, he didn`t say anything, he just grabbed her and she yelled out a scream," Aaron Roberts, Kiera's dad, said. "I'm not sure exactly where he was, I had two sons there... she kicked him and let out a yell."

A surveillance camera outside a butcher's shop around 2800 S. Main Street doesn't show the attempted abduction, but it does show a glimpse of the suspect with a backpack on.

The suspect is described as a male, possibly Latino between 5 feet 8 inches and 6 feet tall. He had scruffy facial hair and was wearing a dark coat with the hood up. He also had dark pants, black boots and a black backpack. His clothing appeared to be dirty.

If you recognize the suspect in the video, please call South Salt Lake Police at 801-840-4000.
