SALT LAKE CITY - Dispatchers say a car crashed into a house in west Salt Lake City Thursday.

The incident happened near 1968 West Sir James Drive (680 North) in Salt Lake City at around 6 p.m.

Police say the driver of a Dodge Neon failed to maintain control of the car around a turn and drove straight into the house.

The car landed inside the bedroom of an 11-year-old boy who police say was lucky to not be in the room at the time.

"And then I heard a loud explosion and I woke up coughing and I heard my mom outside screaming my name. So I came out and she just grabbed me and started hugging me and she said a car had landed inside," said 16-year-old Francisco Ayala, who was in a back bedroom in the basement.

The driver is facing multiple charges, including reckless driving and a driver's license violation because he was only driving with a learner's permit. He suffered minor injuries.
